The central question of our Herbal Studies and Ecological Literacy programs is this:

How can we sustain ourselves from the land in ways that replenish natural cycles rather than deplete them?

To cultivate sound and practical understanding of the Upper Winooski watershed, these programs provide participants of all ages with hands-on learning opportunities to become more intimate with native flora and fauna that live in the rich and diverse natural habitats of Central Vermont.

Herb Camps
Young and old alike learn how to identify and use native and non-native herbs for medicinal purposes studying with trained herbalists at the Two Rivers Center.

Habitat Restoration/Ecological Literacy
Using baseline data gathered in 2001, our staff endeavors to engage students and community members in ongoing inventory and research of the birdlife, wildlife and plants living on the 19-acre Two Rivers property. The existing nature trail provides access to a wide range of habitats including a beach area for river studies and recreation. Due to significant erosion along the riverbanks, the Vermont Natural Resource Conservation Society has allocated $50,000 to fully restore the areas most heavily affected along the south end of the farm.
